Chatbots across Europe now have to admit they are AI
A new EU rule kicked in this week that forces any chatbot talking to European users to clearly say it is a machine, not a person. AI generated images, videos, and audio also need a visible label, and deepfakes must be marked so people can tell what is real. Companies that ignore this face fines up to 15 million euros or 3 percent of global revenue. The rule applies to any company serving EU users, so it will reach plenty of apps used well beyond Europe. If you build or use AI tools, expect to see a lot more "I am an AI" disclaimers popping up in chat windows over the next few months.

Palantir posts a "blowout" quarter, revenue up 93 percent
Palantir's stock jumped 12 percent after the company reported revenue of 1.94 billion dollars, well ahead of what analysts expected. The standout number was US commercial revenue, which soared 149 percent as more American businesses paid to run their own data through Palantir's AI tools instead of handing it to outside AI labs. CEO Alex Karp said no company at their scale has ever grown this fast, and Palantir raised its full year outlook on the back of it. The bigger story here is what it signals: businesses are increasingly willing to pay real money to keep control of their own data while still using AI on top of it.

Visa buys BioCatch for $2.4B to fight AI scams
Visa is spending 2.4 billion dollars to buy BioCatch, a company that already protects 760 million bank users by watching how they actually type, tap, and move on their phone, not just what they buy. The idea is to catch a scammer or a hijacked account before money ever moves, since AI now makes convincing scams cheap and easy to run at scale. Visa says account takeovers and scams already cost the world over a trillion dollars a year. If your bank uses Visa's systems, this is the kind of quiet upgrade that could make it harder for someone to drain your account even if your password gets stolen.

Amazon crosses $3 trillion in market value for the first time
Amazon's stock jumped as much as 5 percent this week, pushing its total value past 3 trillion dollars for the first time. It is only the fifth company ever to hit that number, joining Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Nvidia. The jump came after Amazon Web Services posted its fastest growth in 18 quarters, and CEO Andy Jassy said demand for AI cloud computing is so high that Amazon will not have enough server capacity to meet it through 2027 or even 2028. Amazon hit 2 trillion dollars back in 2024, meaning it added a full extra trillion in just over two years.
