Teranautics

Editorial policy

These standards guide the site's calculators, data notes, and educational explanations. They do not imply independent expert review or an external audit.

Sources and factual accuracy

Prefer primary, official, or technically authoritative sources for factual claims and numeric defaults. Record a source URL and the date it was inspected when a default is marked verified. A citation should support the specific statement it accompanies; a source used for context is not evidence for an unrelated calculator input.

If a value lacks inspected evidence, keep it marked unverified or illustrative, state what is unknown, and avoid presenting it as a typical price or a regional fact. The Data sources page is generated from the files the calculators actually use.

Calculator verification

Calculation code is kept separate from regional data where practical. Automated tests use explicit inputs and expected outputs to check arithmetic and selected edge cases. Passing tests shows that tested code behaves as specified; it does not establish that a model captures every home, validate every default, or constitute an independent audit.

The methodology describes implemented formulas and simplifications. Model changes should include corresponding test updates, a model-version change when formulas change, and a dated entry in the changelog.

Uncertainty and limitations

Use clear labels for user-supplied values, defaults, sourced data, unverified placeholders, and illustrative examples. Explain material limitations and avoid false precision. Scenario ranges communicate sensitivity to selected assumptions; they are not probability intervals unless a model explicitly supports that interpretation.

Do not imply that a calculator determines a home's precise suitability, guarantees savings, or replaces professional inspection, installation estimates, or individualized financial analysis.

Editorial review and updates

The site is maintained by its creator. The project does not claim a standing independent expert-review process. Content and data should be rechecked when underlying sources, regulations, tariffs, or calculator behavior change. An update date is not a claim that every statement was independently reviewed on that date.

Material article corrections should be described on the affected page where practical. Changes to calculator formulas, defaults, and important site behavior should be recorded in the changelog; planned work should be identified as planned rather than reported as a completed release.

Reader-reported errors

Readers can report a suspected error through the Contact page. For a calculator issue, include the page URL, relevant non-sensitive inputs, the expected result, the actual result, and a source or explanation if available. Do not send passwords, payment details, or other unnecessary sensitive information.

Conflicts, advertising, and sponsorships

The current project does not contain advertising, affiliate links, or sponsored content. If commercial content is introduced, disclose it clearly on the affected page and distinguish paid placement from editorial explanation. Any material relationship that could affect a recommendation should be disclosed.

Sources, sponsored placements, and product mentions should not be presented in a way that implies independent testing unless such testing was actually performed and documented.

Use of automated tools

Automated writing or coding tools may assist site work, but their output is not a source and does not independently verify claims or calculations. The maintainer remains responsible for checking published material against its evidence and the implemented code.
